The quality of mercy is not strain'd,
It droppeth as the gentle rain from heaven
Upon the place beneath: it is twice blest;
It blesseth him that gives and him that takes:
'Tis mightiest in the mightiest: it becomes
The throned monarch better than his crown;
His sceptre shows the force of temporal power,
The attribute to awe and majesty,
Wherein doth sit the dread and fear of kings...

The rival nations of Landston, Malova, Terethia and Naevene have been undergoing constant warfare for centuries. But when change comes, it comes very quickly indeed.

The Terethian city of Perle has been under occupation by the dark forces of Landston for the last couple of years now. Despite the efforts of an enthusiastic resistance movement, the city has remained occupied, with many of the population starting to realise that their lives may actually be better under Landston rule. But with a new king on the Terethian throne, the Terethians aren't about to let the Overlord of Landston steal their cities that easily.

Recent international negotiations have resulted in the city being placed under the neutral patronage of the King of Naevene until a referendum of the population can be held. The future of the city of Perle is entirely in the hands of the population and it is up to them to choose whether they wish to be Landstonian or Terethian. But in the shadows there are many who will try and influence the vote, whether for their own purposes or for even shadier groups with their own vested interest.

Meanwhile, the new high priest of Malova is keen to remind the world that a global threat from the Shrouded Lands continues, and perhaps the disparate nations should finally put aside their differences to work against the greater threat.

A game of dark fantasy politics, intrigue and world-changing consequences.

'The Quality of Mercy' is the third in a series of freeforms run at Consequences over the last few years. Set in a fictional (but soon-to-be-published (promise!)) game world, player actions can and do affect things on a global scale. This project seems to be reaching new ground for UK Freeforms - a Freeform LRP campaign, but still very much the character and goal-orientated style that everyone is used to.

Returning Players - You have the choice of whether to keep your character from a previous game, or whether to play a new one. Entirely up to you, just choose the option on the casting form. If keeping a character, plots and goals will tie in to previous events and plots, as well as introducing some new stuff.

New Players - You'll get a brand new character with brand new plots and lots of shinyness, so you don't need to know anything at all about the previous games to enjoy this one.
