The Story of Tonight

I may not live to see our glory...

The Story of Tonight is a scene-based larp following the evolving friendship between Alexander Hamilton, the Marquis de Lafayette, John Laurens and Hercules Mulligan - and then Elizabeth Schuyler after Laurens' death. It is heavily inspired by both the hit musical "Hamilton" and actual history while at the same time not being entirely faithful to either.

Gameplay is in the form of a number of scenes covering different points in the period between Hamilton's arrival in New York and his untimely death. Using music, real letters between the protagonists and an ongoing narrative between Mulligan and Hamilton's son John, each scene is set and then played out by those present. This means that while the bare bones of each scene may be fixed in history, the actual events are not and are played out such that the relationships and emotions can be fully explored.

There are four roles available:

Alexander Hamilton

Marquis de Lafayette

John Laurens / Eliza Schuyler

Hercules Mulligan

All four can be played by people of any gender or none. Casting will be done in advance by group discussion via email (with random draw as a last resort). The player of Hercules Mulligan has some additional in-character narrator duties in the scene-framing structure. All game materials will be sent out in advance.

Please note that the game contains elements of both straight and gay romance (the relationship between Hamilton and Laurens was definitely not purely platonic!). There are also aspects relating to slavery with some characters discussing abolition despite having owned and benefited from slaves themselves.

Absolutely NO SINGING is required or desired. Some familiarity with the characters and plot of the musical (or the real history) is recommended, but the game materials contain a reasonable summary for those unfamiliar (but listen to the original cast recording anyway - you won't regret it!).
